Edward任职于麻省理工学院,是人文科学的John E. Burchard讲席终身正教授,同时他还曾任麻省理工学院比较媒体研究与写作项目的项目主任。Edward的研究领域包括论证、说服、媒体影响和当代修辞理论。他出版著作十部,研究成果发表在《Philosophy & Rhetoric》、《Argumentation》、《Communication Monographs》、《Communication Theory》等期刊上。Edward曾担任《Argumentation and Advocacy》期刊编辑,并于2000年获得道格拉斯W.埃宁格杰出修辞学者奖(Douglas W. Ehninger Distinguished Rhetorical Scholar Award);于2006年获得修辞与传播理论杰出贡献学者奖(Rhetorical and Communication Theory Distinguished Scholar Award);于2009年被评选为全国传播协会杰出学者(National Communication Association Distinguished Scholar)。
Edward is Professor and former Head of Comparative Media Studies/Writing and is MIT’s John E. Burchard Professor of the Humanities. He conducts research in argumentation, persuasion, media influence, and contemporary rhetorical theory. He has published 10 books and his research has appeared in such journals as Philosophy & Rhetoric, Argumentation, Communication Monographs, and Communication Theory. He has served as editor of Argumentation and Advocacy and has received the Douglas W. Ehninger Distinguished Rhetorical Scholar Award in 2000 and the Rhetorical and Communication Theory Distinguished Scholar Award in 2006. He was named a National Communication Association Distinguished Scholar in 2009.

项目介绍
This course provides an introduction to Media Psychology, the branch of psychology that focuses on the relationship between human behavior and media. Students will learn about a series of theories of media use and influence and examples of important research findings involving TV, film, and the Internet.
An autoethnography that reflects on one’s own media experience.
An oral history that writes about an older person’s experience with popular media
A synthesis of scholarly research on a specific topic involving media effects.
A study proposal that designs an empirical study of media effects (a proposal, not an actual study). This proposal can be about entertainment or political media content.
A content analysis of a media artifact (movie, TV series, manga, anime, etc.) that focuses on what demographic groups are represented and how.
本项目为新闻学综合研究项目,通过研究人类行为与各种媒介、媒体之间的关系,着重进行新闻学相关对于媒体效应这一现象主观与客观的心理学分析研究,通过研究人类行为与各种媒介、媒体之间的关系。在项目中,学生将学习一系列媒体的使用和针对人类活动造成的对应影响的理论,内容涉及新闻、电视、电影和互联网等领域的相关案例以及一些重要的研究发现,进行批判性思考,并融合自己的观点进行汇报与写作,包括的汇报主题如下:
一本反映个人与媒体关系、经验的自传体民俗志。
通过主流媒体(媒体本身/传播形式)讲述老年人人生经历的口述型历史
针对媒体实施效果的特定主题学术综合研究。
设计一个关于“媒体效应”的实证研究提案(study proposal,不是一个实际的研究,主题可涉及娱乐或政治媒体内容。
对某类媒体产品(电影、电视剧、漫画、动漫等)的内容分析,侧重于对应人群研究与媒体的呈现方式研究。
项目将以论文作为最终产出。
